Rich Snippets Spam is the manipulative tactic used to spam structured data by inserting misleading information into rich snippets.

Rich snippets enhance the visibility of the web page by providing valuable information to the users.

However, if some websites spam them, the incorporated information can be misleading or false.

For example, only for the sake of gaining visibility, a website may add false review ratings and misleading or irrelevant details in the markup.

This practice is spam according to the guidelines provided by Google.

If such types of sites are detected by Google which manipulate structured data, Google can take manual action against them. As a result of this action, a site can be penalised.
