What Is Clickbait?

Clickbait means creating flashy headlines that overhype what the content is about just to grab more clicks.

The goal behind clickbait is to tempt and trick people into tapping on something compelling to increase traffic volumes through manipulation even if visitors feel let down by the actual content quality (or that of meta description).

The more clicks a page gets, the higher it might climb in the rankings, due to perceived relevance by the search engine algorithms.

It can increase the website's bounce rate which can eventually hurt its SEO over time.
